History
Government Sunder Nursery located in the National capital takes pride in providing all kinds of plants since the year 1949. This nursery is spread out in a sprawling 69 acres campus, of which 20 acres is being maintained by CPWD, Horticulture wing. The rest of the area is under development which also includes some important monuments. This Nursery has a wide collection of around 200 species of annual flowers, house plants, shrubs, trees, creepers, bonsai, ferns, fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants, etc. The nursery sells a wide range of all plant material and seedlings to the Delhites.
Land plants are multicellular organisms that can be distinguished from other living things by a number of characteristics: They make their own food. Plants are photosynthetic and contain a green pigment called chlorophyll, which enables plants to convert energy from the sun into food. Plants store their food as starch.

A park is an area of natural, semi-natural or planted space set asidefor human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife ornatural habitats. Urban parks are green spaces set aside for recreationinside towns and cities.

The Horticulture Unit of CPWD was established way back on 1st April, 1912 under the able guidance of Shri R.H.Loke, Horticulture Superintendent. Since then the unit has evolved into a large wing, pioneer in execution of all kinds of horticulture & Landscape works. The major functions of the wing are as follows:
Besides above, Horticulture wing is also involved in enhancing and conserving the green areas, aesthetic improvement of the gardens and preparation of green manure using green waste in localized areas, thereby maintaining and conserving an eco-friendly environment. The nurseries maintained by this wing of CPWD are well known for maintaining large collection of indigenous plants, seasonal, perennial, foliage, exotic, herbal and aromatic plants. Horticulture wing is maintaining two major nurseries i.e. Government Sunder Nursery and Government Mehrauli Nursery in New Delhi.
